These were some material studies for my core class. I used only things that I found in my dorm room to create these mini sculptures. Even though they are all different, they hold a certain consistency to them and all seem related in an aesthetic way.
These pieces and photo documentation are based on the work of Yves Klein in 1962. The also resemble some of previous work on my concentration pieces from high school so I enjoyed working with them. Here is a link to the performance work of Yves Klein to see my inspiration.
These are some of my Visual Communication pieces. They are not the best pictures, but they show what we have been doing in class. Each piece is 8 x 8 with a 6 x 6 frame. There were many limitations and we were only allowed to black paper as material.
This piece was inspired by Yinka Shonibare's paintings. Although he is a sculpture I was fascinated by his paintings based on the dutch fabrics of Africa. They discuss the relationship between his two origins. My piece is also based on the contradictions of my origins: Being Jewish, and being from the south.
